The Royals have claimed righty Nick Tepesch off waivers from the Oakland Athletics and have transferred Kris Medlen to the 60 day DL to clear room on the 40-man roster.
Kris Medlen, who was placed on the DL early on in the season, was set to rejoin the Royals in the near future, but experienced a setback during a rehab assignment. Medlen’s chances of returning this season are beginning to look slim.
Tepesch, a Kansas City native, was drafted in 2010 by the Texas Rangers. Tepesch has a career 4.68 ERA in 43 appearances spanning just 223 innings pitched. The Royals have decided to start Tepesch off in AAA to develop him further before calling him up to the MLB.
