It’s official!!!! The Seattle Mariners have proven to be a ball club that is exciting to watch not only on TV, but to spend $15-$20 to go to the ball park and enjoy some good baseball! Boy has it been one hell of a start so far, a start we haven’t seen since 2003. Once again Nathan Karns has proven that he belongs in this stellar rotation for the Mariners after going 6 1/3 innings giving up 6 hits, 3 earned runs, 3 walks and 5 strikeouts bringing his ERA to a 3.51, which is an amazing change for a #5 pitcher in the Mariners rotation. In the 7th inning Karns was pulled after giving up 3 singles to left field which ended up hurting him, since 2 of the runs scored in that inning was credited to him.

The Mariners offense had some early trouble with leaving runners in scoring position. Before they tacked on their first run of the game they had a total of 4 runners left in scoring position, which was a huge problem in the past seasons. Kyle Seager had two doubles in tonights game and has shown much improvement from the poor performance in the month of April. Aoki hit his third triple of the season with no outs and was still not able to score a run. The big offensive story tonight was the 3 run triple hit by Ketel Marte, who has been one of the best players for the Mariners (besides Robinson Cano of course) this season. The home run ball for the Mariners belongs to Nelson Cruz, who hit his 7th of the season, and Chris Iannetta, who hit his 4th homer against his former team.

The Mariners bullpen ran into some unusual trouble, as they have played very well so far this season, giving up 2 runs in the 8th innings bringing the game to a score of 6-5. Steve Cishek came into the ninth inning and was roughed up, blowing his 2nd save of the season and giving up 2 runs and the lead. Luckily he was able to end the damage there but ended with the loss in the series opener.

The Mariners have had a really hard time trying to get ahead of the Rangers for the past week or so, but since the Mariners lost they still are up 1 1/2 games in first place, which is amazing!!!! Let’s take game two!!!! Go Mariners!!!!!
