After losing game two of the four game series the Seattle Mariners beat the Astros 3-2 in extra innings. Nathan Karns, who is the #5 pitcher in the M’s rotation looked amazing once again giving up one run, six hits, two walks and striking out 9 over 6 1/3 innings. Karns leaves the game with the chance to bring his record to 4-1, but the bullpen failed to secure the lead so his record stands at 3-1 with a ERA of 3.38, which is very impressive for a #5 starter.
Kyle Seager has been hot in the past week going 15/33 with 3 homeruns, 4 doubles, 2 triples and 9 RBI’s. Seager has raised his average to a .232 after a struggling first month of baseball. Another hot batter if you haven’t noticed is Robinson Cano. Cano ended up going 4 for 5 with two solo shots, one early in the game and one in the top of the 10th. His average also has climbed to a solid .306. Cano is leading the AL with a MVP style performance of 11 homers and 32 RBI’s, showing that last year’s performance was a definite fluke.
Steve Cishek has been an amazing closer for the Mariners, a position any Mariners player hasn’t really been able to secure since Kazuhiro Sasaki. Sadly he blew a save with a solo shot from Luis Valbuena. Luckly the red hot Robinson Cano hit his 2nd home run of the game to left field which ended up giving Cishek the win!
The Mariners look to their 7th straight series with a win tomorrow in Houston. Let’s home Iwakuma can get the job done! Go Mariners!
