That’s right Royals fans, Baseball is back in Kansas City. The defense of the title begins now. The flag for the 2015 champs goes up tonight, and the world series rematch is being served up. If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably got the chills in a giddy excitement just at the thought of it all: the long awaited return of the Kansas City Royals 2015 World Champions! The Royals make their season opener tonight at home, squaring off with their World Series opponents the New York Mets at 7:37 CT time on ESPN.
This is the first time a world series rematch has taken place on opening day, and boy will it be a good one. This game will feature the rematch between the game five pitchers Edinson Volquez for Kansas City, and Matt Harvey for the New York. New York comes into the day with a chip on their shoulder looking to blow it off with their top notch starters and hot bats, while Kansas City looks to fend off their now rivals with elite base-running and phenomenal bullpen staff.
Both teams are still hungry to prove themselves to the baseball world; The Mets, to prove they can continue NL East dominance, the Royals, to prove they can continue AL dominance. If you watched any of the 2015 World Series, you can all but expect the same sort of heart-stopping, nail-biting, remote-throwing type of baseball you got in October as both teams play like there is no tomorrow, and remember, no score is a safe score and no inning is too late to stage a comeback. The hunt for October starts, NOW!
