2016 MLB Opening Day Countdown: Oakland Athletics Team Preview

By: Kyle May

As the 2016 MLB season draws closer, we will preview every single team in the reverse regular season standings order of the 2015 season. Today we will provide analysis on the Milwaukee Brewers and the Oakland Athletics.

2015 Record: 68-94 | 5th in AL West

2015 Recap: The A’s definitely did not perform to expectations in 2015. They struggled mightily despite Sonny Gray’s dominant year on the mound. They traded away Scott Kazmir and Ben Zobrist at the deadline as well. A few of their pitchers just were not able to shake off the injury bug. Overall the A’s did not have a good year in 2015.

2016 Outlook: It is really hard to see the A’s trending up in 2016, especially when the Angels, Astros, Rangers, and Mariners all are continually improving. The A’s will most likely finish last in the division again due to their lack of pitching. Sonny Gray could be in for a Cy Young season, however. If the A’s offense can exceed expectations, they might compensate for a lack of pitching.
