2016 MLB Opening Day Countdown: Cincinnati Reds Team Preview

By: Kyle May

As the 2016 MLB season draws closer, we will preview every single team in the reverse regular season standings order of the 2015 season. Today we will provide analysis on the Philadelphia Phillies and the Cincinnati Reds.

2015 Record: 64-98 | 5th in NL Central

2015 Recap: In 2015, the Reds struggled and finished with the second worst record in the MLB. Joey Votto had a solid season, slashing .314/.459/.541. They traded away ace Johnny Cueto at the trade deadline to acquire some young, promising prospects. Billy Hamilton reinforced his reputation as a spark plug on the bases by swiping 57 bags. All in all, the All-Star Game hosts had a disappointing season.

2016 Outlook: The Reds 2016 outlook is not very bright. The Reds will see some new faces out there this season. They lost both Todd Frazier and Aroldis Chapman to free agency and did not strengthen their weaknesses. However, highly touted pitching prospect Brandon Finnegan should earn a spot in the rotation. Expect the Reds to remain at the bottom of the league in 2016.
