Tonight, the Rays defeated the Miami Marlins 4-2 in a quick match. With this win the Rays take a 49-48 series lead of all time against the Rays’ National League rivals. Matt Moore Has been perfect in his last 2 starts and continued with this performance tonight. Moore went 7 strong innings and settled down after giving up one run in the first inning. Moore gave up 7 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3 Marlins on 95 pitches. Boxberger saved the game and earned his 39 save and has a chance to lead the American League in the saves category. Huston Street has 40 and is out for the rest of the year. This would be a nice accomplishment for Boxberger to achieve in his early MLB career.
Next, the offense was good enough for the win. Mahtook tied up the game with a big solo homer to start the Rays’ offense for the night. Next, Cabrera hit the key homer to give the Rays the lead and that also sealed the win. The win improves the record to 75-81. The Rays still have a great chance to finish the year at 81-81 (.500 baseball).
Finally, Moore next start should be Sunday against the hot hitting Blue Jays.
