Now, Smyly was facing a hot hitting Rangers team. Smyly had an up and down start that shown signs that he was ready to  step back on the mound, but also a lack of missing bats. Drew Smyly outing looks like this: 4 innings of work while punching out 4 batters and walking only 2. So he had some command today in his return, but what hurt his outing was giving up 5 earned runs. He gave up 7 hits and 2 of those hits ended as home runs. Rangers swept the Rays and Smyly’s record falls to 0-2 with his ERA bumping up to 4.35.
