The White Sox go into this afternoon’s game on the south side attempting to avoid the double sweep. They lost the first two games in Chicago, one in a heart breaking nail biter on Monday, and the second in an epic beat down on Tuesday. For the season, they are 0-5, having lost the first three games at Tampa in June, albeit in competitive fashion.
Carlos Rodon brings his 4-4 record with a 4.84 ERA and 1.68 WHIP to the mound for the Sox. He will be opposed by the Rays’ Erasmo Rodriguez, who stands at 8-4 / 3.61 / 1.09 on the same metrics. Rodon had a very rough and short start in his last outing, getting knocked around by the Yankees, including surrendering a grand slam to Mark Texeira. Sox fans hope that, unlike Chris Sale last night, Rodon will bounce back with a stellar performance.
After dropping the last two against the Rays, the Sox have fallen 4.5 games behind for the second Wild Card. They the Rays 2.5 games in front of them for that elusive prize, winning today is a must. Dropping back yet one more game and heading into a weekend series in Kansas City, which leads the division and owns the AL best record, a loss today may cause Sox fans to hear the proverbial “fat lady” warming up her vocal cords.
