Just days after trading for utility player Dustin Ackley, the Yankees have announced that he is now being placed on the 15 day DL with a right lumbar strain. The Yankees had strong belief that Ackley would help contribute to the less than perfect second base position. There isn’t much to speculate other than that the injury is a lower back strain. It leaves the Yankees with no exact time table for a return. The Yankees have called up pitcher Caleb Cotham, who was sent down upon Ackley’s arrival. It appears as if his strain is mild at best, there for making his time table for return approximately a few weeks. It looks like the core four (Beltran, Ellsbury, Gardner, and Young) will be getting the most playing time for the next couple weeks until Ackley is ready to go.
