The Mariners swapped utility man Dustin Ackley in exchange for outfield prospect Ramon Flores and RHP Jose Ramirez. Many may ask why the Yankees would add another outfielder despite having more trouble in the starting rotation.
Despite enjoying an awesome defensive season, Stephen Drew is batting .193. Ackley gives the first place Yankees more of a competitive chance for the playoffs at the second base position. However, Ackley has not seen a lot of time at second base recently which may call for him to be a rotational outfielder. I don’t really understand this trade, but I do see the upside in Ackley’s potential. The only problem is that the Yankees have 4 great outfielders already in Gardner, Ellsbury, Beltran, and Young.
Another story to keep an eye on today before the trade deadline ends at 4 PM is the Aroldis Chapman trade rumors. The Yankees are aggressively pursuing Aroldis Chapman according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today. They could use the help of a more durable bullpen, and Chapman can defiantly provide that assurance. Overall, this is a story to follow for all the Yankees fans.
